Did anyone watch Campbell Live last night and see the item about Christians and the internet? It was very good!

What do you reckon about this quote from the show?

Think of the internet and you think of many things - but probably not God. And yet think of missionaries, whose calling was to spread the word to unchristian peoples wherever they might be. Two centuries ago, it was remote pacific islands... now, it's online.

Go here to watch the segment (you'll need broadband).

I saw it. It was pretty cool. Hoping to see virtual Frank on the segment but I don't think he was there.

Thought it was pretty cool too and was waiting for Frank's segment... The quote does make Christians running a blog sound like an alterior motive and a hidden agenda (convert the "heathen").

Well then, let's put the record straight. What is your reason for running a blog?

To convert heathen like you! Steve at Emergent Kiwi opened the door to blogging for me when I was at Carey college and he was my lecturer - he mentioned it with a class on western culture. When I started as a pastor, I thought it was a good way to connect with the church in new ways and I think especially to point out some of the Christian stuff I thought was good on the web that people might want to graze on (and to make a statement about the sort of Christianity I'm into). Aside from that, shameless self-promotion, the need to feel needed, a need to be known within a celebrity culture, to feel significant in a culture that flattens everything and everyone out. I'm sure a psychoanalyist would say that I don't even know the real reasons for starting a blog (repressed feelings of insignificance). Beyond that, as someone said recently "to do some sweet fun stuff"!

Hahaha. You must associate with some pretty awesome people to hear such deep thoughts like the one quoted. I was on fire that afternoon.
